Why Wikipedia Doesn’t Suck

A lot of people hate Wikipedia. The information on Wikipedia is easily manipulated and is often inaccurate.

I’ve been using Wikipedia and Mediawiki a lot lately, and it’s actually a great site despite its serious flaws.

  • The sharing of Mediawiki software is a great contribution to the Web
  • Many great GFDL and public domain images for you to reuse
  • Lots of GFDL text content
  • It is good as a source of ideas for content

Google puts too much weight on Wikipedia in the SERPs, and a lot of the content on Wikipedia is seriously inaccurate, but overall it’s a great site.
